Our Story

Why rice?

Rice is one of the most eaten foods on the planet, yet somehow nobody made it worth caring about. For decades, the category has been dominated by the same products and the same low expectations. We thought everyday food deserved better. So we obsessed over the grain itself- better rice, real ingredients, sourcing we trust, and no weird stuff pretending to be food.. Because when something shows up on your plate this often, it should be done right.

(Not So) Boring exists because we're tired of treating everyday meals like they're just something to get through. We believe the foods you eat most deserve the most attention, not the least. More flavor. More personality. More standards. Less settling. We are here to make your dinner a little less predictable and prove that even the most ordinary foods can punch way above their weight class.

SMALL SEED, BIG DREAMS

Every winter, we hit refresh. First, the water flows back into nearby rivers, carrying nutrients that help support fish populations across Northern California. Then we dry the fields, level them out, add about five inches of fresh water, and plant the next crop.

Let it Marinate

Not literally. But after planting, the rice spends months soaking up California sunshine and taking its sweet time becoming the plump, flavorful grain you know and love. Great rice isn't in a hurry. Neither are we.

ITS SHOWTIME

The growing season comes to a close as the fields are drained and the rice is carefully harvested. Every grain has officially graduated. The straw sticks around for a little longer. Don't worry, that's part of the plan.

For the birds
For the birds

LITERALLY

We turn the fields into a temporary wetland and a few million birds decide it's the place to be. They snack on leftover grain, help break down the straw, and return nutrients to the soil. It's a surprisingly effective system. Then we take over. While most rice is milled long before it's packaged, we wait until right before bagging. Less time sitting around. More time being rice.
