HOT HONEY RICE

A bold, flavor-packed rice bowl that brings the sweetness and the fun.

Sweet heat and crispy rice in the same pan. Butter, garlic, hot honey, a little soy sauce, and a fried egg on top that you break right before the first bite. It sounds simple because it is. That's the whole point.

Prep: 5 min
Cook: 15 min
Total: 20 min
Serves 2

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked (Not So) Boring Brown Rice
  • 3 tablespoons hot honey (Mike's Hot Honey or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 crispy fried eggs
  • 1 pinch flaky sea salt

Instructions

1.
Melt 2 tablespoons unsalted butter in a cast iron or nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add 2 cups cooked (Not So) Boring rice and press into a flat layer. Don't touch it for 5 minutes until the bottom is golden and crispy.
2.
Push rice to the side. Add minced garlic, red pepper flakes, and fresh thyme or rosemary to the empty side of the pan. Let sizzle 30 seconds, then pour in 3 tablespoons hot honey and 1 tablespoon soy sauce. Stir together and let bubble.
3.
Fold the hot honey butter through the crispy rice. Press back into a flat layer and cook another 2 minutes until glossy and slightly sticky.
4.
Slide rice onto a plate crispy-side up. Top with 2 crispy fried eggs, a pinch of flaky sea salt, and a drizzle of extra hot honey. The egg yolk break is your money shot.
5.
Drizzle cold hot honey onto hot rice right before serving — it steams and glistens.
